dumbsize, v. colloq. (orig. and chiefly U.S.). Brit. |ˈdʌmsʌɪz|, U.S. |ˈdəmˌsaɪz| [‹ dumb adj. + size v.1, punningly after down-size v. Compare slightly earlier dumbsizing n.] trans. To dismiss (staff) in excessive numbers or without regard to organizational function, with the result that work can no longer be carried out effectively. Also intr. Cf. dumbsizing n.
