ithomiid, ithomiine, n. and a.|ɪˈθəʊmɪɪd, -iːn| [f. mod.L. family and subfamily names Ithomiidæ, Ithomiinæ, f. the generic name Ithomia (J. Hübner Verzeichniss bekannter Schmetterlinge (1816) 9), f. Gk. ἰθύς straight + ὦµος shoulder.] A tropical Central or South American butterfly belonging to the family Ithomiidæ, or this group treated as the subfamily Ithomiinæ of the family Nymphalidæ; of or pertaining to an insect of this kind.
