J-acid Dye Chem.
A crystalline dye intermediate, 2-amino-5-naphthol-7-sulphonic acid, C10H9NO4S, used in coupling reactions with diazotized amines to form direct azo dyes.

Dyestuffs vii. 66 The third [sc. compound] is obtained by alkaline fusion of 2-naphthylamine-5:7-disulphonic acid, and is called ‘J acid’. 1917Fort & Lloyd Chem. Dyestuffs xvi. 159 There are certain peculiarities about J-acid and its azo derivatives. Thus coupled with diazobenzene derivatives cotton-dyeing properties are absent, but with diazonaphthalene derivatives are strongly marked. 1937Chem. Abstr.
