kinkless, a.|ˈkɪŋklɪs| [f. kink n.1 + -less.] Without a kink: applied in Electronics to a kind of tetrode designed so as to eliminate the irregularity of the current–voltage characteristic of an ordinary tetrode (which shows up as kinks in the characteristic curve).
1943C. L. Boltz Basic Radio x. 164 The second method of suppressing the secondary emission is to align the control grid and screen very carefully so that the wires are opposite... Such a valve is a kinkless tetrode. 1953F. Langford-Smith Radio Designer's Handbk. (ed. 4) i. i. 8 Some ‘kinkless’ tetrodes are also used as v-f and i-f amplifiers. 1958W. F. Lovering Radio Communication viii. 170 To avoid the kink in the Ea–Ia characteristic it is necessary to return the secondary electrons to the anode even when the screen is positive to anode... The first solution to this problem was the pentode... A later solution was the kinkless tetrode (or Beam tube). |
