单词 | cromer |
释义 | Cromern. Cromer Forest Bed n. a series of deposits which outcrops on the coast at Cromer, comprising two freshwater beds which enclose the Forest Bed proper, an estuarine bed of clay containing the transported remains of trees and rich in plant and animal fossils. From its position (see quot. 1964) the series was formerly thought to be pre-glacial, of Pliocene age, but it is now generally thought to have been deposited during the first (antepenultimate) interglacial, in the early Pleistocene, and its flora and fauna are taken as typical of this interglacial in Britain.
