Etymology: < Anglo-Norman custumable, costumable, Anglo-Norman and Middle French coustumable (compare Old French coustumable ) dutiable, taxable (13th cent. in Old French), in accordance with custom, customary (early 14th cent. or earlier), accustomed to something (a1370 or earlier), partly < costume , custume , coustume custom n. + -able -able suffix, and partly < coustumer , custumer custom v. + -able -able suffix. Compare post-classical Latin custumabilis held by customary tenure (13th cent. in a British source), subject to payment of customs (from 14th cent. in British sources), Old Occitan costumable . Compare accustomable adj., and (with use as adverb) customably adv., accustomably adv.
