Etymology: < German cyanidin (Willstätter and Everest 1913, in Ann. d. Chemie CDI. 204), < cyan- comb. form + -idin suffix.
Chemistry.
An anthocyanidin (usually isolated as the chloride, C15H11O6Cl) which in combination with various sugars constitutes many of the most important natural anthocyanin plant pigments.
