Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: anemone n., -ic suffix.
Etymology: < anemone n. + -ic suffix, after German Anemon- (in Anemonsäure: J. Schwarz 1825, in Mag. f. Pharm. 10 201).Compare French anémonique (1826 in acide anémonique; after German).
Chemistry. Now rare.
anemonic acid n. a crystalline carboxylic acid which occurs in various plants of the genera Anemone and Ranunculus (family Ranunculaceae), and can be formed by the hydrolysis of anemonin.Systematic name: 4,7-dioxo-2-decenedioic acid; C10H12O6.
