Etymology: < paik v. + -ing suffix1. Sc. National Dict. s.v. Paik records the word as still in use in Cromarty, Banffshire, Angus, Perthshire, Ayrshire, Kirkcudbrightshire, and Selkirkshire in 1965. Compare also Shetland Scots paiksins , pexins , in the same sense (apparently < paiks (see paik v.) + -ings , plural of -ing suffix1):1900 Shetland News 17 Mar. in Sc. National Dict. (at cited word) A'll gie daa his pexins when he comes.1965 in Sc. National Dict. at Paik Doo'll get dy paiksins, my boy.1979 J. J.
