Etymology: Probably < post-classical Latin historiographus historiograph n. + -er suffix1, after Middle French, French historiographeur writer of history (1458 as ystoriografeur ). Compare earlier historiograph n. and histographer n., and later historiography n.With the form historiographier compare -ier suffix, and also historiography n. and its French and Latin etymons.
