Etymology: formed as homoplast n. + Greek πλαστικός fit for moulding.
1. Biology. Having a similarity of structure without community of origin: said of parts or organs of different animals or plants. Opposed to homogenetic adj.Nearly synonymous with homomorphic adj. 1c, and with analogous adj. 1b; but implying that the similarities are due to similarity of environment.
