Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin lēgislātor.
Etymology: < classical Latin lēgislātor < lēgis , genitive of lēx law (see legal adj.) + lātor (see lator n.). Compare Middle French legislateur, French législateur (late 14th cent.), Spanish legislador (early 16th cent.), Italian legislatore (15th cent.).
