单词 | maximon |
释义 | maximonn. Particle Physics. A hypothetical particle possessing the maximum mass supposed possible for a particle, and forming part of the dark matter of the universe. ΚΠ 1965 M. A. Markov in Suppl. Progress Theoret. Physics 90 (note) Many properties of these particles are different from the properties of quarks. Further, I call these new particles as ‘maximons’. 1987 New Scientist 8 Oct. 27/3 Markov admits that the discussion is speculative, but suggests that the ‘maximon’ would have a mass of about 10−5 grams (1019 gigaelectronvolts), and that no ‘elementary particle’ could, in principle, be heavier. 1997 Physics Abstr. 1 Aug. 12619/1 Such minimal black holes are a natural candidate for the maximon, a particle whose existence was predicted by Markov in 1966. This is a new entry (OED Third Edition, March 2001; most recently modified version published online March 2022). < |
