Etymology: < French mégacosme (1610) or post-classical Latin megacosmus (mid 12th cent.: compare discussion s.v. macrocosm n.; a1200 in a British source) < ancient Greek μεγα- mega- comb. form + κόσμος cosmos n.1 Compare earlier microcosm n., macrocosm n. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (me·găkǫz'm) /ˈmɛɡəkɒz(ə)m/.
