Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements; modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: miso- comb. form, Greek καπνός , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < miso- comb. form + ancient Greek καπνός smoke (see capnomancy n.) + -ic suffix, after post-classical Latin Misocapnus, title of James VI & I's Counter-blaste to Tobacco in Bishop Montagu's Latin edition (1619) of his works. Compare French misocapnie (1868 in Littré), Portuguese misocapnia (1873), both in sense ‘hatred of tobacco smoke’. Compare earlier misocapnist n.
