Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Olenellidae.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Olenellidae, family name (C. D. Walcott Fauna Lower Cambrian in 10th Ann. Rep. U.S. Geol. Surv. (1889) 635, as Olenellidiae ) < Olenellus , genus name (E. Billings Palæozoic Fossils (1861) I. 11; < Olenus , genus name (Dalman 1827, in Kongl. Vetenskaps-Acad. Handlingar 1826 124, 150; probably < classical Latin Ōlenus , the name of a man who was turned to stone, Ovid Metamorphoses 10. 69) + -ellus -ellus suffix) + -idae (see -id suffix3).
