Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; partly modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: phosphoro- comb. form, -scope comb. form.
Etymology: < phosphoro- comb. form + -scope comb. form; in sense 1 after French phosphoroscope (E. Becquerel 1858, in Comptes rendus de l'Acad. des Sci. 46 970).
