Origin: From a proper name, combined with an English element; probably modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: proper name Pindar , -ize suffix.
Etymology: < the name of Pindar (see Pindaric adj. and n.) + -ize suffix, probably after French pindariser (1489–94 in Middle French). Compare earlier Pindarizing adj.
Now rare.
1. transitive. To make (a verse, a metre, etc.) Pindaric. Obsolete. rare.

1653 T. Urquhart tr. F. Rabelais 2nd Bk. Wks. vi. 32 He doth only flay the Latine, imagining by so doing that he doth highly Pindarize it in most eloquent termes.
2. intransitive. To imitate the poetry of Pindar; to write or speak in Pindaric style. Also transitive with it. Now rare.
