Origin: A borrowing from Sanskrit. Etymon: Sanskrit prasāda.
Etymology: < Sanskrit prasāda clarity, clarified liquid, food sanctified by contact with a god or priest.In form prajadam (see α. forms) via French prajadam , in quot. 1714 at sense 1 representing phonetic transcription of Tamil piracātam or archaic pronunciation of Malayalam prasādam (both equivalent to Sanskrit prasāda ); in form prasadam probably after Malayalam prasādam . In forms prasad , prasaad (see β. forms) reflecting loss of the final vowel in modern North Indian vernaculars.
