单词 puckle
释义

pucklen.

Brit. /ˈpʌkl/, U.S. /ˈpək(ə)l/
Forms: Old English pucel, Middle English poucle, 1500s 1800s– puckle.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: puck n.1, -le suffix 1
Etymology: < puck n.1 + -le suffix 1.Attested early in place names, as Puclancyrce (c1050 in an annal for the year 946; now Pucklechurch, Gloucestershire), Pokelston (1240; now Puxton, Worcestershire), Puchelahole (1301; now Putshole, Devon). The first of these examples probably reflects an unattested Old English byname *Pucela.
