Etymology: < proximo- , taken as combining form of classical Latin proximus proxime adj.1 (compare -o- connective) + ancient Greek κεϕαλή head (see cephalo- comb. form) + -ic suffix: compare -cephalic comb. form. N.E.D. (1909) gives the pronunciation as (prǫ:ksimoˌsifæ·lik) /ˌprɒksɪməʊsɪˈfælɪk/.
Anatomy. Obsolete. rare.
Close to the head; anterior.
