单词 rigling
释义

riglingn.

Brit. /ˈrɪɡlɪŋ/, U.S. /ˈrɪɡlɪŋ/, Scottish English /ˈrɪɡlɪŋ/, /ˈrɪɡlɪn/
Forms: 1600s–1700s riglin, 1700s 1900s– rigling; Scottish pre-1700 riggilling, pre-1700 riglene, pre-1700 rygling, pre-1700 1700s–1800s riglen, pre-1700 1700s–1800s riglin, pre-1700 1800s rigling, 1800s riglan, 1800s riglan, 1800s rigland, 1900s– rigglin.
Origin: Probably formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: rig n.1, -ling suffix1.
Etymology: Probably < rig n.1 + -ling suffix1. Compare in the same sense riggon n., riggot n.1, earlier rig n.2, riggold n., and also (apparently ultimately reflecting ridge n.1 rather than rig n.1) ridgel n., ridgeling n. For the likely semantic motivation of these words, see rig n.2
Chiefly Scottish. Now rare.
= rig n.2 Cf. ridgeling n.
