Etymology: Apparently < post-classical Latin ringillus, ringildus, etc. and its etymon Welsh rhingyll sergeant (see ringild n.) + -ship suffix. Compare Welsh rhingyllaeth sergeantship, ringildry (see ringild n.). Compare earlier ringildie n. Compare later ringild n. 2.
Obsolete.
In medieval and early modern Wales: the position or office of a sergeant or bailiff; = ringild n. 1.
