释义

rodionn.

Forms: late Middle English rodian, late Middle English rodion, late Middle English rowdyon, late Middle English rowdyow (transmission error).

Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps < early Scandinavian (compare Old Icelandic róði whirlwind, of uncertain origin, perhaps < the same Germanic base as rethe adj.), but if so apparently reanalysed at an early date as showing a transferred use of the male personal name Rodion. Obsolete. rare.
A whirlwind. Also as a proper noun, in Rodion's blast. Cf. rodges-blast n., Roger's Blast n.
