Etymology: < tele- comb. form + ancient Greek χείρ hand (see cheiro- comb. form) + -ic suffix.
Now rare.

Designating a mechanical device or system which is controlled remotely, esp. one capable of a degree of articulation and manipulation similar to that of the human hand and which continuously provides the user with sensory feedback during operation; (also) designating a process or activity performed by such a device or system.One of the primary motivations for the development of such devices and systems is as a means of performing difficult or dangerous work in hazardous environments.
