Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or perhaps (ii) a borrowing from Micmac. Etymons: French togue; Micmac atoqwàsu​.
Etymology: Either < North American French togue, or perhaps < its possible etymon -toq- (pronounced /toɣ/; in Micmac atoqwàsu​ lake trout).
North American regional (chiefly Maine).
Any of several North American lake trout; esp. the namaycush, Salvelinus namaycush.
