Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Latin calliblepharum; Greek καλλιβλέϕαρον.

Etymology: < (i) classical Latin calliblepharum cosmetic for the eyelids and lashes, or its etymon (ii) Hellenistic Greek καλλιβλέϕαρον, use as noun of neuter of ancient Greek καλλιβλέϕαρος having beautiful eyelids < καλλι- , combining form of κάλλος beauty (see callisthenic adj.) + βλέϕαρον eyelid (see blepharo- comb. form).The α. forms reflect the Latin or Greek plural form. The β. forms show remodelling of the ending after formations in -ary suffix¹.
