Mardakert

an urban-type settlement and center of Mardakert Raion, Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (Azerbaijan SSR). Located 62 km north of Stepanakert and 41 km southwest of the Barda railroad station. Population, 5,700 (1970). Mardakert has a butter and cheese dairy, a winery, and a small industries combine.
