Kraków Astronomical Observatory

 

a scientific research establishment near Kraków; founded in 1792. A catalog of 62,530 stars compiled at the Kraków Astronomical Observatory in the mid- 19th century was published by the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. The observatory’s principal instruments are a 50-cm photoelectric reflector, three 20-cm refractors, a four-chambered astrograph, and a radio telescope. Its main areas of research are stellar photometry, eclipsing binary stars, the figure and motion of the moon, asteroids, and comets. It has published Rocznik Astronomiczny Obserwatorium Krakowskiego (in Kraków) since 1922.
