Abdul Muis

 

Born July 3, 1886, in Bukittinggi; died June 17, 1959, in Bandung. Indonesian writer and journalist. One of the leaders of the Muslim party Sarakat Islam.

In his novel Wrong Education (1928; Russian translation 1960), Abdul Muis condemned that part of the Indonesian intelligentsia that bowed before the West, and he took a stand against racial discrimination. He translated the works of Cervantes, Mark Twain, and others into Indonesian.
