Tabinshwehti
Tabinshwehti
ruler of the Burmese state of Toungoo from 1531 to 1550.
Tabinshwehti tried to unite the territory of feudally divided Burma, From 1535 to 1541 he subjugated the wealthy Mon state of Pegu in lower Burma; then he conquered the central regions of the country and invaded Arakan. His unsuccessful military campaigns in Siam, beginning in 1548, worsened the position of the conquered peoples, particularly the Mons living along the border with Siam. The Mons rose in rebellion, in the course of which Tabinshwehti was killed.
