diphenoxylate, n. Pharm.|daɪfɛˈnɒksɪleɪt| [f. diphenyl n. + *carboxylate n.] A tetracyclic derivative, C30H32N2O2 , of pethidine that reduces intestinal motility and is given orally as the hydrochloride in cases of diarrhoea and colitis.
