‖ mahseer|ˈmɑːsɪə(r)| Also mahase(e)r, mahsir, marseir, Dicts. mah(a)sur, maseer. [Hindī mahāsir, believed to represent Skr. mahāçiras ‘bighead’. Another Hindī name is mahāsaula, of obscure origin.] A large Indian freshwater cyprinoid fish, Barbus tor, resembling the barbel.
