Etymology: Apparently an error for half-pace n. (see half-pace n. 2), by folk-etymological association with hearth n.1 (compare hearth-pace n.1), perhaps via the form hath pace n. (compare hath at hearth n.1 Forms).
Obsolete. rare.
= half-pace n. Only in attributive use. Cf. hath pace n.
