Inflections: Plural myeloses.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: myelo- comb. form, -osis suffix.
Etymology: < myelo- comb. form + -osis suffix. In sense 3, after German Myelosis, Myelose (1910 in Folia Haematologica 10 ii. 2 and 419 (index) respectively). In sense 4, probably after French myélose funiculaire (1954 in Rev. Neurol. 90 81).R. G. Mayne (see quot. 1857 at sense 1) gives the French form myélose, although this is apparently not otherwise recorded at so early a date.
Pathology.
1. The formation of a medullary or encephaloid tumour (cf. myeloma n.). Obsolete. rare.Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
