1. A boat constructed from light materials, esp. thin planks of wood. (figurative in quot. 1606.) Now rare.In quot. 1610 probably with reference to boats constructed from papyrus reeds (cf. paper n. 18 and quot. 16011 at papyr n.). In quot. 1863, perhaps punningly for ‘reading’.
