Etymology: < classical Latin terminant-, termināns, present participle of termināre terminate v. Compare earlier terminal adj.In sense A. 2 originally after Middle French terminant (1572 in the passage translated in quot. 1603), use as adjective of present participle of terminer termine v.; compare determinant adj. With use as noun compare earlier termination n., and also terminal n. 2.
