Origin: A word inherited from Germanic.
Etymology: Cognate with or formed similarly to Old Dutch irkuman to be startled, Middle Low German erkōmen to be startled, Old High German irqueman to be startled, frightened, to marvel (Middle High German erkomen , German erkommen , now only regional) < the Germanic base of or- prefix (compare a- prefix1) + the Germanic base of come v.In Old English a strong verb of Class IV.
Obsolete.
