单词 compute
释义

computen.

Brit. /kəmˈpjuːt/, U.S. /kəmˈpjut/
Forms: late Middle English– compute; also Scottish pre-1700 comput.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin computus.
Etymology: < classical Latin computus computus n. Compare Anglo-Norman compot , compost , comput (12th cent. in sense 1), Middle French, French comput (1584), Spanish cómputo (1590), Italian computo (a1348). Compare compute v., and earlier compot n., computist n. N.E.D. (1891) assumes stress on the first syllable in sense 1, but there is apparently no conclusive evidence for this.
1. = computus n. 2. Obsolete. compute manual n. [after post-classical Latin computus manualis (12th cent.)] Obsolete a medieval treatise on the art of reckoning on the hands the dates of Church feasts, etc., which contains many mnemonic nonsense-verses. (In the verse referred to in quot. 1533, Adam degebat ergo cifos adrifos (sic), the 12 syllables stand for the 12 months.)
