Etymology: < post-classical Latin polychronicon (c1350, c1470 in British sources as the title of Higden's work: see quot. c1400) < poly- poly- comb. form + Hellenistic Greek χρονικόν annal, chronicle (in plural, χρονικά , short for χρονικὰ βιβλία chronological books), use as noun of neuter singular of χρονικός (adjective) of or concerning time, chronological < ancient Greek χρόνος time (see chronic adj.) + -ικός -ic suffix.
Obsolete. rare.
(A name for) a chronicle of many events or periods.
