Origin: Apparently a borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish puntillero.
Etymology: Apparently < Spanish puntillero (although this is not recorded until later (1871 or earlier), but compare quot. 1851) < puntilla puntilla n. + -ero -eer suffix1. O.E.D. Suppl. (1982) gives the non-naturalized pronunciation (puntilyē·ro) /puntiˈʎero/.
