单词 wantel
释义

wanteln.

Forms: 1500s wantal, 1500s wantel.
Origin: Probably formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: wanty n., -el suffix1.
Etymology: Probably < want- (in wanty n.) + -el suffix1.With the form wantal compare -al suffix1.
Obsolete.
A rope or band used to fasten the pack on a packsaddle or a load on the back of a horse; = wanty n. 2.Quot. 1599 may have the sense ‘a bundle, a pack’, perhaps arising from a misapprehension of Percyvall's Bibliotheca Hispanica (1591) which defines ‘garrote’ as ‘A cudgell to winde a cord, as Carriers do to packe with, Fustis quo funem torquent in ligandis sarcinis.’
